Obituary of James Alex Mathis

James Alex Mathis, age 50, of Travels Rest, SC, formerly of Sylva, NC passed away Thursday May 12, 2016 in Lake Charles, LA. He is the son of Rebecca Watson Mathis and the late Jamie Mathis who passed away in 2002. In addition to his mother he is survived by two children, Sage Mathis of Georgia and Garreth Mathis of Hayesville, NC; two sisters Pam Mathis of Travelers Rest, SC and Sandy White (Scott) of Simpsonville, SC; one brother Eddie Mathis of Sylva, NC; Two nephews Darrin Mathis (Christy) and Jason Lambert. A funeral service will be held Wednesday May 18, 2016 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Appalachian Funeral Service with Rev. Jim Ed Powell and Rev. Larry Bryson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Promise Land Cemetery. Appalachian Funeral Services are in charge of arrangements.
