Obituary of Frank Weaver Moody

Frank Weaver Moody, 98, of Sylva, passed away Sunday February 26, 2017 with family by his side. A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, he was the son of the late Jerry Thomas Moody and Helena Cowan Moody. Frank had a long and diverse career in both the military and civilian sector. He began his career at Fort Bragg, NC where he served in a Horse Artillery Battalion. He also served as a medic when necessary. He was a World War II Veteran where he served as an aide to GEN. Eisenhower at The Supreme Commander Allied Expeditionary Force (SHAEF). His time at SHAEF resulted in his receiving two Bronze stars and a Certificate of Merit signed by GEN Eisenhower. Afterwards, he returned to Sylva and helped open the National Guard Armory where he continued his 32 year military career until retirement and MSG status. In addition, he was employed by Dayco in Waynesville where he retired as a master electrician after 30 years. Frank adored his God, family, Country and community. He was a lifelong member of Love's Chapel United Methodist Church where he rarely missed a Sunday service. He spent decades serving as a member on various boards and positions for local organizations including The American Legion, Woodmen of The World, MARS (K4CBW), VFW and IBEW. Most recently he was recognized as the oldest Veteran in Jackson County and would enjoy riding in the local parades with lifelong friends. He also loved his daily visits and fellowship at the Jackson County Senior Center where he proudly had his own seat at "Table 1" with his beloved friends. He is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Thelma Monteith Moody, his daughter, Glenda Moody, his son, Jerry Moody, his Grandson, Dusty Moody and his Brother Cowan Moody. He is survived by two grandchildren, Jeff Forte of Sylva, NC and Angela (Kurt) George of St. Augustine, Florida, and three great grandchildren, Lauren George, Colten.Forte and Ryan George. Funeral Services with Military Honors will be held 3:00 pm Sunday March 5, 2017 at Love's Chapel United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:00 prior to the Service at the Church. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery.
