Obituary of Jesse Thomas Flake

Jesse Thomas Flake, 86, of Pressley Creek Drive, Cullowhee, died Friday, April 20 at Alston Brook of Lexington. 

A funeral service will be held at 11 am Wednesday, April 25 at Appalachian Funeral Services Chapel in Sylva, by the Rev. Clemmey Queen.  Burial will follow at Fall Cliff Cemetery. 

The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 am Wednesday, prior to the funeral service. 

Mr. Flake was born May 26, 1931 in Anson County to J. T. Flake and Minnie Seago Flake. He was a graduate of Western Carolina University, where he also received his Master’s Degree.   He retired from teaching after many years at Cullowhee High School and later served as an internal auditor at Western Carolina University.  He was the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award from Western Carolina University. He was an active in his community and worked for many years at “Unto these Hills”.  He was a member of Speedwell Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School. Jesse was known for always taking excellent care of his Dad and Mom.  

He is survived by his sister, Betty Flake Sink, of Lexington; his nieces, Susan Bryan (Billy) and Jackie Sink, both of Lexington;  his great nieces, Jordan Bryan Knott (Ian) of Lexington, and Brooke Bryan Osborne (Scott) of Greensboro and his cat, Midnight. 

In lieu  of flowers, memorials may be made to Speedwell Baptist Church, c/o Lora Fox, 406 Silver Fox Drive, Cullowhee NC 28723 or to Cullowhee High School Scholarship Fund, c/o Western Carolina University, One University Drive, 201 H.F. Robinson Administration Building, Cullowhee, NC 28723.
