Obituary of Frank Laprade Padgett

It is with both great joy and sadness to announce that Rev. Dr. Frank LaPrade Padgett of Sylva, NC, age 74, took the hand of the Lord and was granted eternal peace on November 20, 2018.  He was born on September 5, 1944 in Atlanta, GA. Frank received his Bachelor of Business Administration from Georgia Southern, Bachelor of Divinity from Emory University, and Doctorate of Ministry in Christian Education from Drew University.

“Let me be Frank with you”,

Frank was a great man, filled with compassion, love, and understanding for all he encountered on his journey through life. Among many wonderful things, he was a United Methodist minister who served the Western North Carolina Conference for 40 years including 8 years at Cullowhee UMC and was the founding pastor of St. Francis UMC in Charlotte, NC.  Frank played pivotal roles in the founding of and served on numerous boards for many educational and charitable organizations throughout his career. This included, but was not limited to: United Christian Ministries, The Community Table, El Centro del Señor, Cullowhee Kids, Jackson Village, and The Good Samaritan Clinic.

Frank was a perpetual researcher and advocate for the greater good. He was an extremely talented trumpeter, writer, avid list-maker, animal lover, and determined walleye hunter who brought light to those around him through his dedication, compassion, and “frankfurters”. Here's to catching the big one!

He leaves behind and will be terribly missed by many including his wife of 24 years, Allison; three children, William (April), Justin (Mairi), and Heather Futch; stepson, Steven Gentile (Solvig); sister, Therese; and five grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 pm Saturday April 20, 2019 at Cullowhee United Methodist Church.
