Obituary of Terry Daniel Smith

Terry Smith, 63, of Sylva, passed away peacefully on February 17th, 2019. Terry was an avid fisherman and loved nothing more than to spend the weekends with his fishing buddies on the Tuckasegee River. Terry loved sports and was an accomplished athlete at both Sylva-Webster High School and at Appalachian State University where he played football, baseball and ran track. Terry is survived in death by his son; Matt Smith, two sisters; Donna Jones and Teresa Lightner; and one brother; Joey Owen. He is also survived by his nephews; Travis Jones, Adam Wellenbrock, Spencer Wika, Trent Lightner, Joey Allred, and Trevor Chamberlain and his niece; Shelby Allred, along with a host of other friends and family.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at Appalachian Funeral Services with Rev. Earl Holden and Rev. Geoff Whitaker officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 until 2:00 pm.
