Obituary of Darrell Wayne Woodard

Darrell Wayne Woodard, 66, of Sylva, went home to be with the Lord. Tuesday December 29, 2020. A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, he was the son of the late Alonzo and Cecile Woodard. 

A Member of Victory Baptist Church and former Member of Zion Hill Baptist Church, Darrell was the Chief of the Savannah Fire Department since 1984 and was an active firefighter for over 42 years. He served as Jackson County Fire District Services Coordinator. He had previously worked for Jackson Paper and was owner operator of Woodard Christmas Tree Farm.

Darrell had a huge heart and was a very well liked and admired community man. He would help anyone in need and touched so many lives through the years. He will be missed by the entire community. 

In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Regina Frady Woodard and his brother; Ronald Wayne Woodard

He is survived by his wife of 13 years Leigh Woodard

Daughters; Cheryl (Joel) Rogers of Cleveland, TN

                   Monika Woodard of Raleigh

StepSon-    Jared Zullo of Austin, TX

Granddaughter-  Eden Regina Rogers

Brother- Gene Woodard of Wendell, NC

Sister- Frances (Thomas) Cloer of Bryson City

Several nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews also survive

Funeral Services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday January 3, 2021 at Victory Baptist Church with the Rev. Rusty Wolfey officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 till 3:00 pm prior to the services at the Church. Burial will follow at Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. 

The family encourages all that will be attending to take the necessary precautions by wearing masks and practice social distancing out of respect.
