Obituary of Rev. L.F. "Bill" Sutton

. L. F. "Bill" Sutton, age 86 of Sylva, passed Monday, August 4, 2014 at his home in Greens Creek Community. Born March 21, 1928 in Jackson County, he was the son of the late E. Clint Sutton and Nola (Buchanan) Sutton. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia (Brown) Sutton, two brothers; Isadore Sutton and Clint Sutton, Jr., two sisters; Hazel Buchanan and Hilda Bradley, and two special cousins; Harold and Roger Sutton. Bill is survived by his wife, Bessie C. Sutton, one son Douglas Sutton and wife Sherri of Chandler, two daughters; Barbara Taylor and husband Michael of Lawrenceville, GA, , and Janice Hildebrand and husband Alan of Stafford, KS. A special cousin Jackie Dailey of Knoxville, TN, 12 grandchildren and soon to be two great grandchildren also survive. Bill served in the United States Marine Corp from 1952-1954 during the Korean War. He received his seminary education at Southeastern Seminary in Wake Forest. Bill pastored at Blue Creek Baptist Church from 1968-1996 in Jacksonville, NC. He retired and moved back to his home place in Jackson County and faithfully served as Interim pastor for several Baptist churches in the area; Greens Creek, Webster, Ochre Hill, and a church in Franklin, NC. His greatest passion was seeing people come to faith in Christ and growing in that relationship with Christ. A funeral service will be held Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 11:00 am at Lighthouse Baptist Church in Sylva with the Revs. Mike Taylor and Lloyd Fish officiating. Family will receive friends Friday evening, August 8, 2014 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Appalachian Funeral Services. Burial will be in the East Fork Cemetery.
