Obituary of Melissa Doreene Nicholson

Melissa (Mickie) Doreene Nicholson, 55. of Indian Mound Road in Cullowhee passed away Wednesday, October 26, after a short illness. Mickie was born on June 18, 1956 in Sylva. She is the daughter of the late Herbert Vaughn and Irona (Dot) Brown Nicholson, formerly of the Rock Bridge section of Little Canada, currently of Cullowhee. She is survived by her husband, Andy; her mother, Dot; two daughters, Amy Nicholson Sellers and Andrea Nicholson, both of Cullowhee; one sister, Marlene Galloway Lance of Brevard; and three grandchildren. Mickie worked as a building environmental services technician for Western Carolina University and was a member of the Promised Land Baptist Church. She was a former member of the Ladies VFW of Tuckasegee. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Appalachian Funeral Services in Sylva on Saturday October 29, 2011 from 6 until 8:00 pm. The funeral will be held at Promised Land Baptist Church, Tuckasegee at 2:00 pm Sunday, October 30, with Rev. Larry Bryson officiating. Her body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Promised Land Cemetery, with Rev. Ray Houston providing graveside services. Pallbearers will be Brent Franks, Brian Buchanan, Joel Galloway, David Nicholson, Dustin Nicholson, and Randy Messer.
