Obituary of Velma Lou Plemmons

Velma Hooper Plemmons, 86, of Sylva, passed away Sunday November 1, 2015 at Smoky Mountain Health & Rehabilitation Center after a brief illness. A native of Jackson County, Velma was born March 29, 1929 and was the daughter of the late Tom Reuben and Dollie Gosnell Hooper. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years Bud Plemmons. She was a longtime member of East Sylva Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher, WMU and choir member. Most of all she was a wonderful prayer warrior. Velma retired from the Jackson County Register of Deeds and also worked several years in the accounting office at Western Carolina University as well as bookkeeper at the A & P in Sylva. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brothers Thomas and Otto Hooper and sisters Mamie Raby and Naomi Green. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Sandy and Doug Brooks of Clyde; two grandsons Shane Brooks and wife Abra of Waynesville and Slade Brooks and wife Karen of Simpsonville, SC.; a sister Lois Ensley and husband Dennis of Sylva and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday November 3 at East Sylva Baptist Church with the Revs. Charles Dean and Reed Benson officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 3:00 PM prior to the Service at the Church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to East Sylva Baptist Church, 59 Faith Ave., Sylva, NC 28779 or to Westcare Home health and Hospice, 132 Sylva Plaza, Sylva, NC 28779 . .
