Obituary of Beauford Hayes Sutton

Hayes Sutton, age 91, of Sylva passed Sunday, January 17, 2016 at a local hospital. He was the son of the late Walter and Lila Turpin Sutton. He was married to the late Ann Rhinehart Sutton who passed away in 1996. He served in the United States Army during World War II, where he was part of the Normandy Invasion and also served in France, Austria, England and Germany. He was a combat engineer and helped build the longest tactical bridge across the Rhine River. He enjoyed sitting on his front porch and telling stories of events that had happened throughout his life. He also enjoyed his work in the auto parts industry, where he retired when he was 81. He is survived by one daughter Sheri Sutton Bryson and husband Darrell of Sylva and one son Stan Sutton and wife Christy of Sylva; one grandson Brian S Henderson and wife Amanda of Sylva; one great-granddaughter Allie Henderson; three brothers Mack Sutton of Bryson City, Perry Sutton and Huey Sutton both of Dillsboro. He was preceded in death by one son Steven; three sisters Audrey Buchanan, Alma Pullium and Lucille Lambert. A funeral service will be held Wednesday January 20, 2015 at 1:00pm in the Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services with Rev. Jason Buchanan officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:00 pm one hour prior to the service. The burial will follow the service at Stillwell Cemetery.
