Obituary of Catherine Verna Green

Catherine B Green, age 87, of Sylva passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at a local nursing home. She is the daughter of the late Ed and Clearsie Buchanan. She was preceded in death by her husband R.C. Green. Catherine was a lifelong resident of the Greens Creek community and was a member of Greens Creek Baptist Church. She was a homemaker, loving mother and neighbor/friend to all. She also enjoyed spending time in her garden and loved working with flowers. She is survived by two daughters Connie Stevenson and husband Carey of Greenville, SC and Kathy Pittman and husband Jerry of Pine Level, NC; four grandchildren Don Stevenson and wife Jennifer, Sally Smith and husband Kevin, Jay Pittman and wife Alicia and Kara Pittman; two great grandchildren Nolan and Carter Stevenson; Two brothers Ray H. Buchanan and Kenneth "Buddy" Buchanan; two sisters, Louise Cabe and JoAnn Garner. She was also preceded in death by two brothers Aldon and Donald Buchanan; three sisters Hilda Sutton, Frankie Cowan and Pauline Buchanan Henderson. A funeral service will be held Saturday January 30, 2015 at 11:00 am at Greens Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Tom Lavin and Rev. Leroy Mobley officiating. The family will receive friends Friday January 29, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Appalachian Funeral Service. Burial will follow the service at Greens Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Greens Creek Cemetery Fund. Appalachian Funeral Service are in charge of arrangements.
