Obituary of Rebecca Speich

Rebecca "Bert" Mills Speich, 81, passed away Feb. 13, 2016. Bert was the daughter of Elbert and Mamie Mills. Bert was married to Henry "Hank" Speich for 61 years. Bert and Hank lived in Beloit, Wis., for 20 years where they raised two children. After moving to Sylva, N.C., in 1971, Bert worked as a bank teller at First Union National Bank and then Haywood Savings Bank. Bert and Hank were members of First Baptist Church, Sylva, for 45 years. Bert sang in the choir and joined Hank as Sunday School teachers for 26 years. After retirement, Bert and Hank enjoyed many years of travel and visited all 50 states. Bert will be remembered for her kindness and engaging smile. She will be missed by all whose lives she touched. Bert is survived by two children, Lane Speich and spouse Vickie, Rhonda Furr and spouse James; two grandchildren, Derrick Rogers and Devin Rogers and spouse Desiree; and three great-grandchildren. Surviving siblings include Jack and Brenda Mills, Ronnie and Pat Mills, Grace Mills, Jo Ann and Jerry Walker, and Danny and Patsy Mills. A Memorial Service will be held 1:00 PM Friday March 18 at Sylva First Baptist Church. The family will receive friends following the Service at the Church .
